Advanced Data Acqusition and Multi-Loop PID Control
in a DIN Rail or Panel Mount Package

V3.43 & V4.10 Now Available
New features in this release are:
  • Support for 4-wire RTD
  • Addition of new controls features (V3.43 only), previously found in 2604/2704
  • Faster baud rate for configuration port
  • Profibus DP and DPv1 firmware builds have merged

The 2500 IOC V3.43 supports Modbus RTU, Profibus DP/DPv1 and DeviceNet variants and has available coding functions ACQIO, UW, 4LOOP, 4LOOPUW, 8LOOP and 8LOOPUW. The 2500 IOC V4.10 supports Profibus DP/DPv1 and has the SYSIO coding IOC function only (Fast Sampling IOC).

Product Description
2500
Model 2500

The Model 2500 is a DIN rail mounted multi-loop controller and data acquisition system that is the latest addition to Eurotherm’s field proven Series 2000 controllers. Over 1750 IOC's and 10,000 I/O modules have shipped signifying the industrial automation market acceptance.

The 2500 is a high performance controller able to run multiple single and compund loops enabling self-tuning, cascade and gain scheduling. Advanced features include mathematical functions and combinational logic.

The product line consists of a base (rack), processor, terminal units, plug-in I/O modules and an externally mounted 24 VDC power supply. Three base sizes allow for up to 32 analog and 64 digital inputs and outputs.

DIN rail mounting allows the 2500 to be mounted where the control action is required, minimizing the cost of the wiring since only the communications cable is taken to the User Interface.

The 2500 may also be mounted directly onto the machine, saving the cost of control enclosures. A four slot base is capable of four loops of PID control. Two analog inputs and two analog outputs plus 8 digital I/O takes only 5" x 7" of panel space. The 2500 system is configured using Eurotherm’s iTools software package.

The 2500 can be also be used as remote I/O for the Model 2604 and 2704 controllers. This permits the use of more sensor inputs that can be used in a: min/max/average/switch-over mode in an application.

This product was designed to be used with a display device running a Modbus RTU or Profibus DP (and DP V1) master communications interface, such as the Eurotherm T2900/T800, PC based software packages, or a PLC. Up to 16 bases may be daisy chained together using standard RJ45 cables.

PID Control Capability

The 2500 is now available with the 2500E IOC module. The Enhaced IOC is available in 4 or 8 single or compound advanced PID loops per base. Each PID function block consists of two PID functions. This creates a compound loop, which is capable of advanced control techniques such as cascade, ratio and override control. Override control is two complete PID loops that are connected to a single output. The output of the "loop" is selected from one of these two PID calculations. Override control allows for the implementation of advanced control strategies such as Auto profiling and thermal head control.

When used as a cascade loop, the auto/manual function works on both loops. This allows for bumpless transfer between auto and manual while in cascade mode.

Toolkit Function Blocks

Toolkit blocks come in two types, analog and digital. Analog blocks provide mathematical computations such as multiply, divide, high/low signal select, square root, greater than, less than, ln, etc. Digital blocks perform logic functions such as AND, OR, XOR, latch, equal, not equal, etc. Toolkit blocks also provide advanced functionality such as "hot swap" which will switch to a back-up sensor if the primary input signal fails.

New to V3.26 are double the number of User Values (8 to 16), Analog operators (16 to 32) and Digital operators (16 to 32). Added are Timers and Totalizers.

Up to 8 Timer blocks have been added having 1 of 4 modes of operation; Pulse, Off delay, Minimum on and One shot. Up to 8 Totaliser blocks have been added that are used to measure the total quantity of a measurement integrated over time (e.g. flow, power). Outputs from the totaliser block are the inputs integrated value. An alarm state and pulse output for wiring to a counter block or external electromechanical counter are available to extend the upper range of totalisation.

Digital Communications

The 2500 IOC V3.43 supports Modbus RTU, Profibus DP/DPv1 as a slave only device and DeviceNet as a Generic Device. V4.10, the Fast Sampling 2500 IOC supports Profibus DP/DPv1 as a slave only device.

New for V3.26: Support for 2400 to 38400 baud for Modbus RTU. Previous versions were limited to 19200 baud maximum; and, support in both the 4 and 8 loop IOC for Profibus DPv1.

Windows Based Configuration Software

The "iTools" Windows based configuration software is used to set up the PID blocks, set up the I/O, configure the Toolkit blocks and make "softwire" connections to the I/O points, the PID blocks or to internal variables.

The soft wiring concept provides the ability to make a "connection" between a node inside the controller and an I/O signal such as a digital input or an analog output. For example, an analog input signal can be "soft wired" to the maximum power output parameter on a control loop output. This would allow the analog input to set the maximum output that the loop can produce.
