Why use EtherNet/IP and the Mini8® Multi-loop PID Controller?

Easy integration – The common communication platform EtherNet/IP (supported by the ODVA) is a widely used, standard communication link between PLC’s and other products from a variety of vendors. Eurotherm support this platform in its premier line of Process Control, Power Control and Recording Products.

Supports best choice devices – A PLC using the EtherNet/IP protocol can communicate with many different makes and models of devices. This leads to the best choice for the specifying engineer.

Cost – There is significant cost to upgrade to the next level PLC or add a remote rack especially when the programming requires accurate analog control.

PLC Performance – Additional I/O points and associated logic consumes processing power and can impact system performance and slow scan rates. This is a particular issue with analog inputs and outputs that require temperature conversion, thermocouple linearization, analog scaling and Engineering Unit conversion.

Accuracy – Small and Medium PLC’s don’t typically have the accuracy required for today’s modern processes.

The better levels of PLC accuracy can be around +/-0.2% and are typically +/-0.3% or worse and still require specialized calibration procedures.
