Model 2573-MOD Modbus Adapter Module

DESCRIPTION

The CTI 2573-MOD Serial Interface Adapter is a microprocessor-based communications adapter module for Siemens SIMATIC TI505™ controllers. The 2573-MOD provides support for communicating with plant floor devices such as Eurotherm's Series 2000™ controls, bar code readers, scales, displays, printers, and other PLCsŪ.

The 2573-MOD permits the Eurotherm Series 2000 instruments to independently control temperature or process applications based upon Eurotherm's proven algorithms, self-tuning, and high speed response. The Siemens TI505 can be optimized for performance since the time-consuming analog control loops now become distributed analog control blocks which are easily accessible over the 2573-MOD link. In addition, when used with the new SSRx Load Doctor diagnostics, the Series 2000 instruments AND the contactors can report any controller alarm, failed contactor alarm, open heater alarms, and heater amperage. This information will be instantly available at the Siemens TI505 where it can trigger a planned response before costly scrap is produced. The ability for the contactor to monitor and to communicate these various alarms is a new patent pending technology called PDSIO™.

The benefits of using the Eurotherm instruments are as follows:

The 2573-MOD provides four serial ports. Each port is independently configurable for electrical interface, communications parameters, and protocol. Port electrical interfaces include RS-422, RS-485, and a subset of RS-232-C. The protocol manager enables PLC logic to control transmission and receipt of data using a message format which matches the particular protocol. The 2573-MOD can act as a master station for Modbus RTU protocol and ports #1 and #3 can be configured as Modbus RTU masters to Eurotherm controls. Ports not used for the Modbus RTU protocol manager can be configured for Siemens NITP (non-Intelligent Terminal Protocol), CAMP (Common ASCII Message Protocol), or GAS (General ASCII Support) protocol managers. The GAS protocol manager can be tailored to support a wide range of custom ASCII protocols, including the ASCII version of Modbus.

FEATURES

  • Four Serial ports, each providing:
    • RS-422
    • RS-485
    • RS-232
  • Concurrent, independent operation on all four ports
  • PLC logic control of output messages and processing of input messages
  • Modbus support enables the PLC to act as a master for Eurotherm controls which act as Modbus RTU slaves.
  • Task Code Master support allows the local PLC to access memory in other Siemens SIMATIC TI505 or TI500 series PLCs
  • CAMP support enhances performances when transfering between two CTI communications adapters
  • Modbus ASCII support
  • GAS prototcol manager can be tailored to support custom ASCII protocols
  • Full set of front panel diagnostic LEDs
    • Module Status
    • Tx/Rx for all four serial ports
